It is either let your father go since Medicare won’t pay, or get the money together and save his life and keep him around. That’s a tough decision, but I think I would have to get the money somehow and get the procedure done.
There are some discount health plans, that (ARE NOT INSURANCE) but will cover things up to 40-50% for emergency situations. They usually make you pay a hefty “membership” charge, but considering the costs that you’re likely to occur, it may not be a bad idea.
Barring that, Hospitals will work with you if you are unable to pay, and will create payment plans to make the costs more bearable, but I’d suggest that if you can find a way to secure some sort of health insurance to do so immediately, because hospitals like to mark up tremendously.
What you can do is put up your father’s home another mortage to get the surgery paid for. Talk to the hospital rep and state that you are working citizen and that you have collateral. If you have a car you can sale it. I know you are going through are times. I see this all the time I work in abd transplant dept at a hospital. Medicare should cover Some of the cost, but I do know they are not going to cover it all. Good luck.
Oh yeah go to your father’s church and ask the preist or preacher if the church can offer up collection for your father.
have a garage sale, car wash
